This feat of engineering was revealed a few days ago on YouTube. The little feller’s name is AlphaDog, and he’s being developed by DARPA. He won’t be giving your kids a ride anytime soon though. Instead he’ll be deployed alongside the US Marines in battle-zones across the globe.
Apparently the robot in the video above is already carrying 400 lbs. of weights. The pneumatic and load-balancing are phenomenal and as you can see from the demo, 2 grown men can’t push it over. Even if AlphaDog was blown over by a rogue bomb-blast, the video shows that he’ll still be able to get to his feet.
When completed, AlphaDog will be able to carry all 400 lbs. across 20 miles in 24 hours without stopping to re-fuel. Seems like something straight out of Star Wars, doesn’t it?
…IEEE Spectrum and Boston Dynamics.
Can it play dead?
I just figured out what I want for my birthday…
@Daniel, I’m sure it can.
@Pat, … and if it doesn’t behave for you can leave it with me for the weekend.
Oh gosh. LOL! Freakish! Wow.
