Like many of you, I’ve been reading social media headlines for the past several years.
I remember when Google went public, when Twitter went viral, and when Wave withered away.
On any given day, there’s a good chance that I check Facebook at least a couple of times.
I am not alone.
:points:
You do too.
The question is no longer if there is a social media tech bubble. The facts above prove that.
The real question is will it pop?
And if it does… then when?
And if does soon… then what happens to us?
Imagine if Facebook, YouTube, and Twitter crashed for a week.
Trust me. It would be weird.
Kudos to Mashable for their article.
Not many of us remember Wave withering. It never got out of beta. However, I don’t think there will be a terrible burst of the tech ‘buble’. The increasing utility and ubiquitousness of these services may be a harbinger of a shifting business model that lives in cyberspace. Obviously, these companies are simply pioneering this era and may make the mistakes that pioneering companies do. But I wouldn’t be surprised to see a digital equivalent of Ford Motors that survives and thrives in the new world it created.
wow. the disparity between the and the revenue are scary.
Makes me happy that I only have YouTube…and rarely use it. But Google could go, too…
<end of world>
Why would you expect annual revenue to be the same as the valuation? A companies value ought to be a lot more than it can make in a single year. Just like a person’s net worth ought to be more than his or her annual income…
