I’ve been a big fan of Jon Schmidt for a long time. As a teenager, I remember being inspired by his fresh take on piano. His songs were either inspirationally energizing, jaw-droppingly cool, or just plain melodious.
A couple of years ago, Schmidt collaborated with another musician and some filmmakers to create a mash-up of “Love Story” by Taylor Swift and “Viva La Vida” by Coldplay.
Their video was later removed when they failed to receive copyright permission to distribute the work, but you can still watch a rip of the video on YouTube.
Three days ago, Schmidt released a new “original” music video collaboration which is shown below.
Instruments were made to be stretched and to convey human emotion, not to be mollified. These guys do it well.
If you still want more after watching the song then here’s a behind-the-scenes clip.
As a side note, the video shoot was from 6pm to 6am. Typical filmmakers.
Piano: Jon Schmidt
Strings: Steve Nelson
Director: Devin Graham
