Well, I’m pleased to report that your phone calls, emails, and prayers have finally gotten through! Last night, at 7:05pm the Calendars Committee placed HB 2557 on the General House Calendar for tomorrow, (i.e. Thursday).
As you can see from the meeting minutes, HB 2557 was the last bill placed on the agenda. The committee met one last time to add some more bills to Thursday’s Calendar. You can see tomorrow’s complete General House Calendar here.
So obviously, the good news is that HB 2557 is now on the Texas State General House Calendar. For the past 6 years, our Parental Rights Restoration Act has never gotten this far. We’re within hitting distance of the ball.
Unfortunately, tomorrow is the last day for 2nd reading of bills in the Texas House. That means that tomorrow, bills can’t be postponed to the next day. If the House hasn’t reached all of the bills by midnight, the remaining bills die.
So it’s going to be a close one folks. I’m confident that we have the votes in the Texas House to be passed. What I’m unsure about is if our bill will be brought up before midnight tomorrow.
We might make it, we might not.
At this point there’s nothing else that yall can do, except pray, and make sure that your Rep will vote yes on HB 2557.
I’ll be at the Capitol all-day tomorrow to see what happens and to answer any questions. You can watch the proceedings live here.
